History

The local Kringen 4-25 Lodge of the Sons of Norway received its charter in 1903.  It was not until 1978 that the dedication took place for the Kringen’s Heritage Library.  Credit was given to member Sister Jackie Klokseth for establishing the library.

The Heritage Library was dedicated to the memory of Doctors Olaf Sand and Nels Tronnes. Both Doctors along with Doctor O.J. Hagen, were the founders of the Fargo Clinic.  Dr. Sand and Dr. Tronnes were natives of Norway, and were enthusiastic promoters of the preservation of our Norwegian heritage besides being excellent physicians who spent their entire careers serving the Fargo and surrounding areas.

Our Library Today

In conjunction with the mission of the Sons of Norway, our library promotes and preserves the heritage and culture of Norway.  We celebrate a relationship with other Nordic Countries through our collection of library materials, maintenance and conservation of artifacts, and support of genealogy research.

Our collection of over 3200 books is cataloged by the Dewey Decimal Systems also used by the Scandinavian Countries.

Books

We have over 3200 books in our library including 912 in the Norwegian Language.

Artifacts

Our library is also a museum of family heirlooms, objects reflecting daily life in Norway, decorative art work by Norwegians, textiles, and mementos.

Media

We have a variety of DVDs of selected geography/travel, film, and dances.  Scandinavian music is found on CDs and vinyl record albums.
